Episode 3: Jay Goldberg - New York Mets

Show Notes

During Muneesh's travels around the country, he looked for a baseball hangout in every city. Without question, the best baseball store in the country is the Bergino Baseball Clubhouse. If you are in the New York area, come by for a visit and discover your home away from your home ballpark.

2:35 The "Miracle Mets" refers to the 1969 New York Mets. Only seven years old at the time, the Mets won their first World Series Championship.

2:50 In 1986, the Mets returned to the top of the mountain, defeating the Boston Red Sox four games to three in the World Series.

3:14 Before moving to San Francisco in 1957, the Giants played their home games in New York City.

3:57 William Shea is the man credited with bringing National League baseball back to New York.

17:36 Tom Seaver was an all-star 12 times. He won three Cy Young awards, the NL Rookie of the Year award, pitched a no-hitter and most importantly, was Jay's favorite player as a kid.

24:20 With just seventeen games to play, and a seven game lead in the division, the 2007 Mets had a historic collapse. The team went 5-12 in those seventeen games and did not make the playoffs. Sorry Jay.

25:30 In a battle for baseball futility, the 2003 Tigers lost 119 games. The Tigers won five of their last six games of the season to avoid breaking the 1962 Mets record for most losses in an MLB season (120).

35:35 If you don't know about the Steve Bartman game in 2003, you are in for a sad treat.

38:33 Donn Clendenon won the World Series MVP for the 1969 Mets.

39:44 Mike Piazza was traded to the New York Mets from the Miami Marlins (known at the time as the Florida Marlins) after playing only five games for the fish.

44:51 Gary Carter was an integral part of the Mets 1986 World Series run.

44:59 You can pick up an autographed copy of Dwight "Doc" Gooden's book at the Bergino Baseball Clubhouse (while supplies last).
